This week has been the return back to my desk following a brilliant ~3 week trip in Brazil 🇧🇷with Jeevan Dhanjal meeting new and existing partners. It was a trip well overdue, and not just because of my childhood admiration of Brazilian footballing superstars ⚽, but to get some quality in-person time with connections we've been closely working with over the last 6-18 months. As a self-confessed tech and fin-tech nerd, below are some interesting trends and takeaways I noticed:• #Pix dominates - Pix was launched by the central bank 3 years ago and enables seamless transactions via scanning QR codes. Reducing the reliance on traditional payment and the associated higher fees card networks and processors. Usage of Pix increased 74% last year, by comparison credit and debit transactions increased 23%. Pix is everywhere. Want to send money to friend to split a bill? Pix. Buying a cold beer on the beach from a one-man vendor? Pix. • #WhatsApp - The widespread adoption of WhatsApp is nothing new for our European counterparts. However, what amazed me was the wealth of additional features and functionality built into WhatsApp in Brazil. Hungry? Just by using the WhatApp number of a takeaway enables users to browse the menu, make a selection and make payment all within the app. Similar experiences when booking a haircut or other appointments. It really feels like we're using a "WhatApp Basic" version here in the UK.• #CPF - This is the Brazilian individual taxpayer registry. Think of it as your own unique ID for taxes and online transactions. Somewhat akin to SSN in the USA. This one really threw me off... I was amazed at how often the CPF is requested even for trivial online transactions, and a visiting foreigner without a CPF, it really can leave you excluded from the digital world. Try and login to a public wifi? CPF required. Trying to buy a football ticket online? CPF required. Needless to say this caused some frustration during our trip, but with the help of some friendly locals, we always found a way.• #iGaming is everywhere - From the moment we landed in the airport (personal use) the adverts started. Huge banners in the terminals and adverts when accessing airport wifi. Then a constant stream of daily adverts you go about your daily life: TV, Radio, Buses - it really is everywhere and here to stay long-term.A massive thank you to all who played a part in making our trip so great, and we look forward to seeing you all again soon. Put simply, its a wonderful country with amazing people and we cannot wait to return. And here's a nice video from a helicopter tour which was a nice highlight 👇👇

Lewis Besley, I got to this post via my former colleague (and your actual colleague)Bastien Dubucand just want to make a few extra remarks. As a Brazilian living in EU, it's always great to see positive comments about my country from those who visit it.About Pix: yes, it works via QR codes, however, the beauty of Pix (and the reason for its success) is that you can make a money transfer using simply your contact's phone number, or their email address or the famous CPF (so, QR code is just one option). This year, the government started to test Pix International, where Brazilian will be able to pay via Pix overseas. Hopefully, it will work. You are right about WhatsApp, everyone has it. The only problem is that most people rather send audio messages, so when you need to remember what someone told you a few days ago, it's quite a challenge. CPF became even more important this year as the government decided to terminate another national document known as RG (General Registration). CPF is widely used to avoid frauds. As I said, it was great to read this post. Hopefully, you will have the opportunity to return many times to Brazil and experience much more.

Went for first visit in 2018 my third visit back in December 2022 and have seen Pix, as you said, absolutely dominate the country. It is used for absolutely everything. I think it's quite genius!

bKash Limited has expanded its “Add Money” service to include American Express (Amex) and CityMaxx cards. This means that Amex and CityMaxx cardholders from City Bank can now seamlessly link their cards to the bKash Wallet, allowing them to add funds directly from their cards. By integrating these popular cards, bKash aims to enhance convenience and accessibility for its users. Whether it’s topping up their mobile balance, paying utility bills, or making purchases, customers can now do it all using their Amex or CityMaxx cards within the bKash app. The process is straightforward: select the “American Express” icon in the “Card to bKash” section, enter the recipient’s bKash account number, specify the amount, and provide the necessary card details. It’s a win-win for both cardholders and bKash, strengthening Bangladesh’s digital financial ecosystem.

Have you used any virtual dollar service in Nigeria such as a virtual dollar card app and you notice that the buy rate is higher than the sell rate like for instance, if today, $1 is worth 1800 Naira and you want to buy your Dollars on the service, the Dollar rate would be at about 2000 Naira or more per dollar which is a much higher rate than the general black market rate is. I have seen the reviews on a lot of virtual dollar services, especially the virtual dollar card apps and most users complain about this particular issue and see it as a form of extortion on its users. Now I agree that it can be annoying that these apps charge charge a lot more than the black market rate but the reason why these services charge higher is simply because of the idea of CONVENIENCE. Let me use a practical example. Imagine if James wants to open a Dollar account with his bank, he would need to transport himself with his car or public transport and go to a Bureau De Change (BDC) to obtain the US Dollar. He would also then need transport himself to the bank and fulfill the bulky conditions needed to obtain a Dollar account (after he stands in a long line of customers at the bank). Once the bank approves his Dollar account, he will also have to pay for a Dollar card and must go back to the BDC to get Dollars from them. If James wants to pay for anything with that card, he will still have to go to the BDC then the bank to fund his account whenever he wants to use it for any transaction. Now the point is, with these virtual Dollar apps, you do not need to leave your home to open one. You just need your smartphone and KYC details and you have a virtual dollar account. If James knew about these apps, he wouldn’t have to bother himself leaving his house to convert and deposit his Dollars but rather, he could convert it all within the app. He can still pay for his Dollar card in the app and use it to pay any services of his choice.Overall, with virtual Dollar apps, you're essentially paying for the convenience of avoiding a trip to the bank. While these apps provide ease of access and quick transactions, they often come with additional fees or exchange rate markups that reflect the cost of that convenience.

👝 The web version of Google Wallet has launched in UkraineUsers of the web version can change payment methods in Google Wallet, update Wallet and Google Pay settings, and view transaction history.➡️ Google has been rolling out a web version of Google Wallet since April. 13 countries have been added to the list of countries where you can already use the web version of the electronic wallet from Google, including Ukraine. This was reported by 9to5Google.💳 Wallet.google.com (http://wallet.google.com/) gives access to a list of saved payment methods, that is, credit and debit bank cards, as well as loyalty cards, travel tickets, and event tickets. It displays the actual barcode, which can be removed. Identity cards and any passes are therefore only available in the mobile version of the wallet.#Wefunagency | #Googlep| #Tip➖➖ ➖➖ ➖➖ ➖➖ ➖➖🏠Ads account rental service:✉️ For all questions : https://t.me/meuth_agency | https://t.me/ceuth_agency✉️ Subscribe to the channel: https://t.me/wefun_agency

Convenience has been the name of the game for digital wallet growth, and they are about to double down. Digital wallets have already started to become a consolidated depository for a plethora of payment, membership, and ID cards, but Google Wallet seems poised to add passports to the mix. Offering the option to carry this government-issued ID in a digital wallet could help solidify digital wallets as the go-to for your cardholders' daily carry needs. If your financial institution isn't on board, it's time to get there.#DigitalWallet #GoogleWallet #DebitCard #CreditCard https://lnkd.in/gSXqYw3g

It seems like there have been some changes with Samsung Pay regarding World cards, particularly starting April 3, 2024. Users are advised to explore alternative payment methods for travel, such as the Troika card. Additionally, Mir Pay application has been removed from Google Play.📲 Previously added World maps will be removed from the application. 📲Starting April 3, 2024, adding and using World cards in Samsung Pay will no longer be available. 📲In the Republic of Belarus, the Samsung Pay service will continue to operate without changes. You can add and use Visa and Mastercard cards from our partner banks from the Republic of Belarus to Samsung Pay. 📲Starting April 3, 2024, adding and using World cards in Samsung Pay will no longer be available. It is recommended to use alternative methods of payment for travel - for example, the Troika card, if it works in the region. ✒️ It also became known that today the Mir Pay application was removed from Google Play.Certain Lithuanian Fintech companies used the services of this supplier, so now I will observe how their technological pulse will change and how they will react as customers.
