County Sports was a gracious host for the tournament, except between the lines as it slugged its way to the championship. They had to battle its way past seven opponents, including three on the last day which included 16 of the top softball teasm in the nation. Tournament Director and County Sports Manager, George 'Doc' Linnehan kept his team focused. The County Sports squad started outby outlasting the Virginia Beach Piledrivers 30-29 in which they scored 16 runs in the sixth inning to pull off the win. Next, they were beaten by the powerful Hicksville Astros. That is where they had to battle their way from the loser's bracket. After eliminating Taylor Construction of Providence, Jo's Pizza of Milton, FL and the Indian Lakes Piledrivers of Virginia Beach. They had to defeat theundefeated Hicksville Astros twice to win the title. They did so by the scores of 24-20 and then 30-23. County Sport's Bob Lombardi was the MVP as he batted .677 for the tournament, including 11 for 12 in the final three games. Bill Malloy was the HR champ with 13. County's two big superstars, Bert Smith led the way as well. Smith batted .734 and hit 12 Homers, while Jim Galloway went 26-36 for a .722average.==========================================================================
